Bronze Medals Won by UMak Herons in Squash and Women’s Rugby
Once again, University of Makati (UMak) has shown world-class caliber as 14 UMak Herons join the 472-strong athletes of Team Philippines in the ongoing 28th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Singapore from June 5 to 16.
UMak Athletic Development Center (ADC) Director Dominador Lera, Jr. reported that the 14 athletes are competing in five out of 35 sporting events that the country is participating in. These include archery, floorball, rugby, squash, and traditional boat race.
The UMak contingent is composed of: PAUL MARTON DELA CRUZ and RACHEL ANNE DELA CRUZ for archery; RONALD ROSS CARBONELL, MARK JELLO CERDON, HENIELEE PASTOR, MARK ANTHONY POLO, HAZZER TALINGDAN, and LIONEL NICO VELEZ for floorball; GELANIE GAMBA, RASSIEL SALES, and SYLVIA TUDOC for rugby; DAVID WILLIAM PELIÑO and JEMYCA ARIBADO for squash; and DANY FUNELAS for traditional boat race.
“UMak athletes have been consistently winning and bagging awards in both local and international competitions. We are proud to have produced our very own home-grown, world-class athletes,” Director Lera said.
Makati Mayor Jejomar Erwin Binay, Jr. commended the UMak athletes for their dedication to excellence in their chosen event, which has earned them the privilege to represent the country in international sports competitions.
