GAWAD KALINGA (Design Center for Nation Building Partner)

Gawad Kalinga (GK), which means to "give care" in Filipino, is officially known as the Gawad Kalinga Community Development Foundation, a Philippine-based poverty alleviation and nation-building movement. Its mission is to end poverty for 5 million families by 2024.  The developmental programs of GK include the following:  Child and Youth Development;  Community Building; Green Kalinga; Bayan-Anihan; GK Kalusugan; Community Infrastructure; and Center for Social Innovation.


UMak will deploy Grades 11 and 12 students for community immersion particularly for its National Service Training Program (NSTP) through the Design Center for Nation Building (DCNB).  Meanwhile, GK will provide the proper orientation and training for volunteers and shall monitor and evaluate their performance when such an evaluation is required.  GK has been a long-time partner of UMak in various endeavours.
